Gauss' Disquisitiones Arithmeticae, one of many incredibly influential works, essentially created the field of number theory. He completed Disquisitiones Arithmeticae, his magnum opus, in 1798 at the age of 21, though it was not published until 1801. Including relevant correspondence with Wolfgang (aka Farkas) and Jonas Bolyai, indicate the relevant discovery by Gauss as dated from some time during the 1790s, prior to his Disquisitiones Arithmeticae. Gauss spent most of his life in Gottingen and died there as well. In this year also published Disquisitiones Arithmeticae, a classic work on number theory the most influential of all time. Gauss was pretty much the Lord of Number Theory by the time he published Disquisitiones Arithmeticae, at the tender age of 21. Gauss's dissertation related to the fundamental theorem of algebra, whereas his book Disquisitiones Arithmeticae contained the fundamental theorem of arithmetic.
